Four in the Running for Mayor of Vernon

Rockville CT, September 30, 2011. Jim Sendrak, President, Rockville Community Alliance (RCA), has announced that the RCA will hold a Mayoral Candidate Forum in lieu of its normal monthly meeting on Tuesday, October 25, 2011. All four mayoral candidates have confirmed that they will take part in this forum. The four mayoral candidates are: Polly Schaefer (D); George Apel (R); Gordon Paterson (Republican, running as an Independent) and James Krupienski (Unaffiliated).

The forum will take place from 7:00 - 9:00 pm in the Senior Center, 26 Park Place, Rockville (second floor). The public is invited to attend and will have a chance to ask questions after a session of prepared questions from Rockville Community Alliance.

Drew Crandall, President and founder of Keep in Touch will be the host/moderator for the evening.


RCA Invites Public to Join Library Tour

Rockville, September 11, 2011.   The Rockville Community Alliance (RCA) has scheduled its monthly meeting at the Rockville Public Library for Tuesday, Sept. 27th from 6:00-8:00 pm. The meeting will be open to the public. There will be a tour of the library led by Donna Enman, Head Librarian, and a chance to meet and greet the members of the RCA Board afterwards. Anyone interested in taking a tour of the library is encouraged to attend. Please meet in the Peck Room promptly at 6:00 pm. Light refreshments will be available.

Rockville, August 20, 2011. Shaun Gately, the newly hired Vernon Economic Development Coordinator for Vernon, will speak to the monthly meeting of the Rockville Community Alliance on Tuesday, August 30th, at 7:30 pm at Bev’s Corner.

Mr. Gately will give the audience an insight as to the current projects underway in Vernon with the Economic Development Commission as well as plans for future endeavors. This meeting i s open to all -- the public is cordially invited to attend. There will be time for questions and answers, and the light refreshments will be served.

Local Community Organization Seeks Members/Sponsors

ROCKVILLE, CT - JUNE 8, 2011.  The Rockville Community Alliance (RCA) - a group made up of concerned citizens dedicated to improving the community - is looking to increase membership and promote sponsorship opportunities. The RCA meets monthly, the last Tuesday of the month.

  •  Over 20 years ago: started out as the “Six Street Block Watch” in downtown Rockville, a neighborhood beautification project
  • Works with Vernon Police Department
  • Currently: a network of people, businesses and community agencies working together. Continues partnership with the Vernon Police Department
  • Now also partnering with the Vernon Community Network - a collaborative that connects all of the social service agencies within the town of Vernon, especially for National Night Out

Additional members and volunteers are being sought.

  • For occasional assistance with events and festivals, and for longer commitments as board members
  • Anyone can be a sponsor--local residents, groups, local merchants--for some or all of our activities

Past Activities:

  • National Night Out (first Tuesday of August annually)
  • Rockville Festival; featuring the Tri-Town Cruzers

Activities held/planned in 2011:

  •  Assisted with Maple Street School Spring Fling Fair, May 14th
  • “July in the Sky” - Downtown Rockville - (June 30th - rain date July 1st); partnering with the Vernon Parks and Rec. Dept. who sponsors the event.  Will include entertainment, food and game booths in the downtown Rockville area before the annual town fireworks
  • National Night Out - Tuesday, August 2, 2011; partnering with the VCN and Target Stores (Manchester); free food and entertainment/activities, local agencies will have information booths
  • Rockville Festival - Saturday, September 24, 2011; co-sponsor with Tri-Town Cruzers
  • December Fest -events throughout December; partnering with Vernon Parks and Rec. Dept. to promote seasonal and holiday events on weekends
